Upon graduation from Little Falls Community High School in1980, I moved to Minneapolis to attend the Minneapolis to attend the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. After leaving MCAD in 1982 my activities involved underground, alternative, and independent gallery spaces and shows. I participated in too many such shows to mention. Although painting has been the primary focus of these efforts, there were also music, performance, and recurrent video projects as well. A solo exhibition of paintings was mounted at Speedboat gallery in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1990. The trend toward small alternative painting shows continued until 1999 when I began making photographs as aids to the painting pieces. The production of these photographic studies along with the acquisition of a vintage large format camera sowed the seeds for a new creative direction, and an intense concentration on photography was born. Prior to 2003 little or no effort had been made to exhibit the work being produced, yet a selection of those pictures appeared in an invitational exhibition a few years earlier.
